Ingredients

Starch, gelling agent (carrageenan (E 407)), acidifier (potassium tartrate (E 336)), firming agent (potassium chloride (E 508)), coloring food, safflower concentrate, colouring agent (real carmine (E 120)).

Mix 1 sachet of cake glaze (Tortenguss) with 2 level tbsp sugar in a small saucepan, then gradually stir in 250 ml cold water or liquid* with a wooden spoon until smooth. *If using the syrup from a tin of apricots, peaches or plums, add an extra 3 tbsp of liquid; for cherries, mix the tinned fruit syrup and water in equal parts. Bring the mixture to the boil while stirring, then briefly boil, stirring constantly. Spoon the glaze on immediately, spreading it quickly and evenly from the centre outwards, and leave to set.
