What is this product?

Tortenguss is the German equivalent of clear cake glaze, a transparent setting mixture used to spread a glossy finish over fruit cakes and tarts. One unsweetened sachet sets 250ml of liquid. Mix it with two level tablespoons of sugar, then gradually stir in 250ml cold water or another suitable liquid until smooth. Bring it to the boil while stirring and boil briefly. Spoon the glaze over the fruit immediately, working quickly and evenly from the centre outwards, then leave it to set.
