Sweet beginnings in Alba
It all started in 1946 in a small pasticceria in the Italian town of Alba, where master confectioner Pietro Ferrero created his first cream from hazelnuts and cocoa. That inventive spirit laid the foundation for Ferrero. With the now-famous Nutella, initially called “Supercrema”, Ferrero soon won over breakfast tables far beyond Italy. What began as a local speciality became an international success full of indulgence. Today, the Ferrero name stands worldwide for unforgettable chocolate moments and family tradition, sweet passion across three generations.
Italian roots, German connection
Ferrero remained true to its Italian home, yet ventured abroad early. In 1956 the company opened its first plant outside Italy, in Stadtallendorf, Hesse. That marked the beginning of a success story made in Germany, with early products such as Cremalba, the forerunner of Nutella, and Mon Chéri produced here. To this day, Ferrero’s German site is a hub of chocolate craftsmanship and one of the group’s largest production facilities. Ferrero blends Italian creativity with German precision, tradition and modernity working hand in hand to craft chocolate enjoyed worldwide.
A global taste leader today
From a family patisserie to a world-leading confectioner, Ferrero now brings beloved brands, from Nutella and Kinder to Ferrero Rocher and Tic Tac, to shoppers in well over a hundred countries. Despite its size, Ferrero remains a family company at heart. Quality and responsibility come first, with a focus on responsibly sourced cocoa and carefully selected ingredients. Whether for festive occasions or everyday treats, Ferrero products sweeten life for millions, the golden pralines and the iconic jar creating special moments of indulgence.
