Gewürz Ketchup Knoblauch is Hela's garlic ketchup, a tomato ketchup built on their spiced base with 3 per cent garlic worked through it. The recipe was reformulated to use fresh garlic paste, so the garlic reads as rounded and aromatic rather than sharp. It belongs with bratwurst, burgers, grilled meat and chips, and it is the bottle to reach for when plain tomato ketchup tastes like it is missing something. Made by Hela Gewürzwerk Hermann Laue GmbH in Ahrensburg, this 300ml squeeze bottle is the everyday size.

I think I fell a little bit in love.

What it tastes like

The garlic comes through clearly without drowning out everything else. The label says pikant, which made me expect heat. There is none. Instead you get a pleasant spice blend over the tomato base.

The catch

Like the other Hela ketchups, it is on the sweet side. If you want a sharp or savoury ketchup, this is sweeter than you think.
