What is this product?

Pumpernickel is the German equivalent of a dense wholemeal rye loaf, sliced thick and served with cheese, pickled herring or good butter. This is the tin version, around 13 slices, pasteurised rather than preserved so it keeps for years unopened. The ring pull needs no tin opener and the plastic lid reseals it. Due to its extreme shelflife, Germans keep a tin in deep storage or on their caravan as an emergency food. Every tin holds 500 g and is ready to eat.
