What is this product?

Salzige Heringe translates as salty herrings, fish shaped salmiak liquorice similar to Dutch zoute drop, served in small handfuls because the salt hits hard. The salmiak content is 1.8 per cent, which puts these firmly in the grown up half of the liquorice shelf rather than the children's half. The bite is firm, the liquorice flavour is deep, and the salty edge is the whole point. Katjes has kept them on the German sweets shelf for generations. No animal gelatine.
