Lorenz traces its heritage to 1889, when Hermann Bahlsen established the Hannoversche Cakesfabrik in Hanover. Over the following decades, the Bahlsen family grew a significant range of snack products alongside their famous biscuits, including the enduring Saltletts (introduced in 1935) and Curly peanut puffs (1963).

In 1999, Lorenz Bahlsen separated the savoury snack business from the wider Bahlsen group, establishing Lorenz Snack-World as a dedicated snack company in its own right. The Crunchips range—launched in 1992—had already become a major success and formed the backbone of the new independent venture.
