Ferrero was founded on 14 May 1946 by Pietro Ferrero in the small town of Alba in northern Italy. What began as a local pastry shop quickly evolved into a confectionery company with global ambitions, built around the idea that treats should bring genuine delight.

The brand's international breakthrough came with Nutella, first sold in 1964, followed by Ferrero Rocher in 1982. Its products gained their first major foothold in Germany early on—a factory was opened there in 1956—making German consumers among the first outside Italy to embrace the Ferrero range.
