About the history of Trolli

Trolli began in 1948, when Willy Mederer founded a small confectionery business in Fürth, Bavaria. His son Herbert joined at seventeen and became the creative force behind the sweets; in 1979 the company registered "Trolli der Bär" as a trademark and entered the fruit-gum market in earnest.

Still family-run in its third generation, Trolli produces in Germany at Hagenow and Neunburg vorm Wald and ships to more than 100 countries. Its proudest invention arrived in 1993: the Saure Glühwürmchen — Sour Glow Worms — whose success earned Herbert Mederer the international Candy Kettle Award.

True to its motto "Let the fun win", Trolli keeps building the playful side of the German sweets aisle — unconventional shapes, sour coatings and bright colours that generations of German children grew up with, now available in the UK.
