About the history of Paulaner

Paulaner's story begins in 1634, when the Minim friars of Munich's Neudeck ob der Au monastery brewed beer for their own table — the birth of one of Germany's most storied breweries. The order's patron saint, Francis of Paola, gave the brewery its name.

Today Paulaner is a Munich institution and one of the six breweries served at the Oktoberfest. Its soft drinks arm bottles Paulaner Spezi, the caffeinated cola-orange mix that has become a cult favourite at every German kiosk, Biergarten and football ground.

For German expats in the UK, a chilled can of Paulaner Spezi is a taste of home that British colas simply cannot match — fruitier, lighter and unmistakably Bavarian.
